Volunteer in Cambodia

Schools for Children of Cambodia is seeking enthusiastic and creative volunteers to work within our team in Siem Reap, Cambodia. We currently have positions available for those with experience in one of the following areas:

Marketing & Fundraising
Public Relations
Administration
Building construction
Educational Development

As a volunteer, you will witness firsthand the challenges and rewards of education in a developing country. You will be expected to have a cultural understanding of the country and the ability to work independently in a new environment.

Your contribution will help make a lasting difference to the lives of the children at SCC schools.

Who can apply?

To be eligible for the SCC Volunteer Programme, volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and fluent in English.

SCC seeks volunteers that are prepared to ‘roll up their sleeves', work with, rather than against, the cultural differences they face in the communities and schools, have the ability to work in an environment where resources, support and ‘western style systematic management' is often absent, and have a sense of humour!

How long are volunteer assignments?

SCC requests a minimum commitment of six months.  You will be expected to work approximately 5 hours per day, 5-6 days per week.

Where do volunteers work and stay?

The SCC office is located approximately 1.5-5 km from the center of Siem Reap town.  You stay in a guesthouse, hotel or rented room and commute to work by SCC-provided bicycle (up to a 30 min ride, one-way).

How much does it cost?

All volunteers are expected to fund their own travel, visa, accommodation and living expenses whilst on assignment. Fortunately food and accommodation is relatively cheap in Cambodia. Village stays range from $75 - 150 per month.  You can expect to pay $5-10 per night for a basic room with fan and western style bathroom.  Your visa costs for the six month stay will be $200.

Where can I get more information?

How do I apply?

SCC is committed to child protection, and as a result has a vigorous application process. You should allow three months between applying and your proposed start date.  Volunteer candidates should complete and submit the following documents:

You will also be expected to provide SCC with:

  • A copy of your CV / Resume
  • Photocopy of your passport
  • Two passport pictures

Please send completed documents by post to 107 Guilford Street, London, WC1N 1DP, United Kingdom or by email to volunteer@schools4cambodia.org.
